Thanks to the building development along the coast between the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX century, Porto San Giorgio possesses a considerable number of elegant liberty style buildings. The inauguration of the railway line in 1864 contributed to the improvement of the seaside tourism, with the movement of rich people to the coast for holidays and the building of residential areas.

Walking around the city you will find beautiful richly decorated Art Nouveau villas, such as the stunning “Villa delle Rose” (now belonging to the Canossiane nuns), Villa Clarice (1883), Villa Montanari – Rosati, and Villa Santa Maria al Poggio (1860 – 1870).
